Remote Selling in 2025: Best Practices for Virtual Success

What Are The Best Remote Selling Practices in 2025?

How are slick snake-oil sales persons able to make so many sales? They understand one thing: how to build trust. You may understand this too but sales today aren’t like it was a few years ago.

Today, up to 80% of B2B interactions occur online. Remote selling is now a must-have skill for any sales team that hopes to be successful in this modern era. However, this presents various challenges.

How can you build trust and close those deals online? How can you build relationships and unlock more sales opportunities? We answer these and many other questions below.

What is Remote Sales?

Also known as virtual selling, this is the process through which sales representatives prospect, engage and close deals with customers through digital channels. There is no physical contact with the customer.

This mode of selling has increased in popularity in the past few years because:

  • It reduces costs while increasing efficiency
  • It increases reach for businesses
  • It has become the norm as over 90 percent of B2B buyers now prefer to engage on digital channels.

What are the challenges of Remote Selling?

There are various challenges that sales teams face when it comes to selling remotely. These include:

  • Building trust is difficult without face to face contact
  • It can be difficult to keep buyers engaged long enough to close a sale
  • The right content must be delivered at the right time to be effective
  • It can be difficult for managers to keep track of distributed teams.

Virtual Selling Best Practices For Sales Managers

With the challenges of virtual selling in mind, here are some best sales practices you can apply to engage buyers and help you hit your numbers on the virtual landscape.

Set key performance indicators (KPIs)

Be clear about what is expected of the team by setting KPIs. These include indicators such as daily minimum activity, follow-up cadence, pipeline stages as well as quota metrics.

This ensures everyone on the team understands what you want to achieve and what is expected of them.

Provide the right tools and channels

Equip your team with what they need to succeed. Your team should have access to tools and channels that will support their work.

These may include case studies, micro content or demo videos. Ensure that these are easy to access and share whenever the need arises.

Keep checking in with your team

What is your team struggling with? What have they done well so far? It’s always a good idea to check in with the team regularly.

This can take various forms including weekly standups, one-on-ones with sales reps or pipeline reviews. Be sure that you have data from your CRM on hand for more productive check-ins.

Foster a culture of appreciation

Celebrate the wins whether big or small. Encourage a culture of appreciation by recognizing those that are doing a good job.

This is a great way to boost morale and foster healthy competition. Consider running virtual contests or leaderboards with rewards for those at the top at the end of a given period to keep your team motivated.

Invest in development

A great way to improve the performance of your team is by ensuring that they have the right skills. You can do this through regular training.

Ensure that new hires receive onboarding training to accelerate their integration into the team and enable them to hit the ground running.

Encourage autonomy

Let your sales reps set their own goals to encourage a sense of responsibility. However, be sure to institute a system for regular reporting and check-ins to keep them accountable.
